What sintered stone actually is

Sintering is a manufacturing process. Fine natural minerals are fired at very high temperature and pressure until the particles fuse into a single dense sheet, with no resin and no binder doing the work.

That process produces an extremely dense, low porosity surface with exceptional hardness and durability. It is the same principle that forms natural stone underground, run in a kiln instead of over geological time.

Because the colour and pattern are built into a fired body rather than printed onto a coating, a sintered stone benchtop keeps its appearance under heat, sunlight and heavy daily use. That combination of density and stability is what separates it from the resin based surfaces it usually gets compared against.

What varies from one slab to the next is the format, the finish and the quality of the body and the pattern. Those are the things worth comparing, and they are much easier to judge standing in front of a full slab than from a sample chip. You can see the sintered stone slabs we currently hold before you make the trip.

✔  Dense and low porosity, so it never needs sealing
✔  Holds its colour under direct sunlight
✔  Available in a wide spread of looks, from marble and travertine through to timber and terrazzo
✔  Suits benchtops, splashbacks, vanities and cladding

The slabs

Two ranges: sintered and jumbo

We hold these as two separate ranges rather than one. They are not the same slabs in two sizes, so it is worth looking at both before you decide. Format is where the real decision sits, because a longer slab means fewer joins across an island or a run of bench.

The sintered range, standard format

Slab size
3200 x 1600 x 20mm

The core sintered stone range and the widest choice of looks on our floor. Covers most kitchen benchtops, splashbacks and vanity tops in a single piece.

Best for
Most kitchens

If your island and bench runs sit inside 3200mm, this is the range to look at first. It carries the broadest spread of looks we hold.

The jumbo range, jumbo format

Slab size
3600 x 1800 x 20mm

A separate range held in the larger format. The extra 400mm of length and 200mm of width is what takes joins out of long islands.

Best for
Long runs

Islands past 3200mm, and any job where you want a single slab to run from the benchtop up the splashback. Worth asking about early if your run is long.

Sintered stone is sold as full slabs, so you can personally select the exact piece you want from our Campbellfield warehouse. Once chosen, your slab is reserved under your name and supplied to your nominated stonemason, which means you receive the exact colour, pattern and veining you picked.

Properties

How a sintered stone benchtop behaves day to day

No sealing, ever

Low porosity means there is nothing to seal on installation and nothing to reseal later.

Heat tolerant

It handles heat without discolouration, which is why it is the surface we point people towards when the cooktop and the bench are the same run.

Scratch and stain resistant

Dense enough to resist scratching in normal kitchen use, and non absorbent enough that red wine, oil and citrus do not leave a mark.

Indoor and outdoor

Suitable for both, which is unusual in a benchtop surface. Confirm the specific slab with us before committing to an alfresco bench.

UV resistant

It holds its colour in direct sunlight rather than fading, which is what makes the outdoor applications possible.

Edge profiles

Any edge profile can be made up, and a mitred edge builds the bench out where you want it to read chunkier.
The look

Marble, travertine, onyx and concrete

Most people arrive asking for sintered stone marble, because they want that veined look on a surface built for a working kitchen. The range goes well beyond it. These are four slabs from our current floor.

Grandezza Bianco

Marble look

Grandezza Bianco

White field with bold grey and gold veining, bookmatched across slabs.

Solterra

Travertine look

Solterra

Warm and softly banded, sits well with timber joinery.

Firelight

Onyx look

Firelight

Amber and gold movement, a statement island or bar front.

Tuscany Aggregate

Concrete look

Tuscany Aggregate

Flat grey with aggregate speckle, strong in commercial interiors.

Why the marble look is the most requested

Marble is a beautiful material and we sell a great deal of it. It is also a natural stone with its own character, which includes being porous and acid sensitive, and plenty of people happily accept that in exchange for the real thing. A sintered stone slab in a marble pattern is simply a different answer to the same brief, giving you the veined look on a surface that asks nothing of you. Which one is right depends on the room and the household, so we are happy to stand you in front of our marble benchtop slabs and the sintered slabs together and let you compare.

Applications

Where sintered stone works beyond the benchtop

Because it comes in large format, it goes places a smaller stone slab cannot.

Kitchen benchtops and islands

The main use. Jumbo format means a long island can often be done in one piece, with a mitred edge if you want it to read thicker.

Splashbacks

Run the same slab from the bench up the wall for a continuous surface with no grout line. See our splashback range.

Vanities

Hard wearing and unaffected by cosmetics, cleaning products or standing water. Pairs with our stone vanity range.

Fireplace surrounds

Heat tolerance makes it a sound choice around a fire. We supply slabs for fireplace surrounds regularly.

Feature walls and cladding

Large format covers a wall with very few joins. Our cladding range covers large format panels alongside natural stone.

Commercial interiors

Reception desks, hospitality counters and retail fit outs, where appearance has to survive heavy use. Talk to us about commercial supply.

Looking for sintered stone flooring rather than benchtops? That is a tile question rather than a slab one, and our floor tile range or outdoor tiles is the better place to start.

How buying works

From slab selection to installed benchtop

Attila's supplies the slab. Your stonemason measures, cuts and installs it. Here is how the two fit together.

STEP 01

Visit the showroom

See both sintered stone ranges in person at Campbellfield. No appointment needed, though booking means someone is free to walk you through them.

STEP 02

Choose your slab

Pick the actual slab, including whether the jumbo range would remove a join. We tag it to your name.

STEP 03

Your stonemason measures

Your stonemason templates the job and handles cutting, mitred edges and cut outs. Use your own, or ask us and we will recommend someone we work with.

STEP 04

Supply and install

We release the slab to your stonemason, who completes the installation. One point of contact for the material throughout.
Why buy here

Melbourne sintered stone suppliers worth the drive

Both ranges in stock

If your island is long enough that a standard slab would need a join, the jumbo range is the reason to come to Campbellfield. Both ranges sit on the floor together, so you can compare them in one visit.

Sintered stone sits in the same warehouse as marble, granite, travertine, limestone and terrazzo slabs, so you can judge it against the real thing rather than from a brochure.

Attila have been just incredible to deal with from day one. We are thrilled with our project and could not recommend Attila enough. The quality of work, efficiency of communication and overall experience has been just wonderful.

    See both ranges standing up

A sample chip tells you very little about how a three metre island will read. Twenty minutes in Campbellfield with the standard and jumbo slabs side by side settles it, and there is no obligation attached to looking.
