What to Expect When You Visit a Stone Showroom (and How to Choose Your Slab)
A stone showroom visit is straightforward once you know how it works. At Attila's Natural Stone in Campbellfield you walk through full slab displays and warehouse stock, compare materials side by side, inspect the finishes, and reserve the exact slab you want. No appointment is needed. Bring your measurements and a cabinetry sample and you'll get far more out of the hour.
Showroom and warehouse under one roof
Most tile shops show you samples. A warehouse shows you slabs.
At Campbellfield the showroom and the warehouse sit together, so you're not choosing from a rack of 100mm offcuts and hoping for the best. You see full slabs standing up, lit the same way, with the whole pattern visible from top to bottom.
That matters more than anything else in the process. Veining runs the length of a slab and changes across it, so the only way to know what your island will look like is to stand in front of the actual stone. Stock also arrives regularly, which means what's on the floor genuinely changes, and it also means you're not waiting on a container for material you've already chosen.
What to bring with you
You don't need an appointment and you don't need to prepare for a week. But five minutes of preparation makes the visit far more productive.
- Your measurements. Benchtop runs, island size, any return panels, and the splashback height if you're considering full height
- A cabinetry sample or a clear photo of your joinery colour. Stone reads completely differently against white, timber and dark cabinetry
- Your flooring if it's already chosen, or a photo of it
- Your plan for the kitchen layout, even a rough sketch
- Some idea of how the kitchen is used. Heavy cooking, kids, entertaining. This shapes the recommendation more than any photo you've saved
If you have a stonemason already, their details are useful too, because the layout conversation is easier when we know who's fabricating.

Walking the racks: how to actually look at slabs
When you visit our Campbellfield showroom, you can take your time exploring our full-size displays and seeing how different materials look in a finished setting. This gives you a better understanding of the colours, textures, finishes and overall feel of each product before making a decision.
Once you have narrowed down the styles you like, our team can guide you through to the warehouse, where you can view the actual stock and select the slabs, tiles or bundles you would like to purchase. With natural stone in particular, every piece can vary, so being able to see and choose your exact material gives you greater confidence in your final selection.
Our team is available throughout your visit to answer questions, explain the differences between materials and help you find an option that suits your project, style and budget.

Choosing the exact slab (and why it matters)
Choosing natural stone is about more than simply selecting a stone type- it is about choosing the individual slab that will become part of your home.
Every slab is unique. The movement, veining, colour variation and pattern can differ significantly from one piece to the next, which is why viewing and selecting your actual slab is such an important part of the process.
When you choose your slab in person, you can consider how the veining will work within your design. You might prefer a dramatic vein running through the centre of an island, a softer section for a more understated look, or consecutive slabs that can be bookmatched to create a continuous or mirrored effect across an island, waterfall end or splashback.
Selecting the slab early also gives your stonemason the opportunity to plan the layout and make the most of the natural pattern before fabrication begins.
Once you have made your selection, the slab can be reserved for your project so the exact piece you chose is not sold while your cabinetry and kitchen are being prepared. For popular materials, choosing early can be especially worthwhile as individual slabs and batches can move quickly.
Take a look at what's currently in stock in the quartzite slab range before you visit so you have a starting point in mind.
Questions worth asking while you're there
- What exactly is this stone, and how does it behave in a kitchen?
- Will my layout come out of one slab or does it need two?
- What's the difference in price between these two slabs, and why?
- How does this stone handle acids, heat and daily use?
- What finishes is this available in?
- Is there similar material at a lower price point?
- How is this sealed, and how often does it need resealing?
Good answers to those seven questions will tell you more than a month of scrolling.
What happens after you choose
We supply the slab. Your stonemason handles the template, cutting, edge profile, cut-outs and installation, and will normally seal the benchtop once it's in.
That split is deliberate and it works in your favour, because the stone cost and the fabrication cost stay separate and visible instead of being bundled into a single number with the stone marked up inside it.
Wholesale pricing applies whether you're a homeowner, a builder, an architect, a designer or a stonemason. And if your project extends beyond the benchtop, the same visit can cover porcelain slabs, splashbacks, tiles and outdoor paving, so the materials are coordinated rather than sourced piecemeal.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need an appointment to visit a stone showroom?
No appointment is required for your first visit to Attila’s. You’re welcome to simply pop into our Campbellfield showroom during opening hours, browse our displays and explore the warehouse at your own pace, with our team available to assist when needed.
If it’s your second visit and you’d like us to pull specific slabs out for you, compare particular bundles, or arrange a more focused one-on-one consultation, you can book an appointment through our website.
Bringing your measurements, plans or inspiration images can also help us guide you towards the most suitable options for your project.
Can I choose the exact slab I want?
Yes, and it's the main reason to visit in person. You select the specific slab that will become your benchtop, so you control where the veining falls. Once chosen, the slab is reserved for your project.
Can homeowners buy directly, or is it trade only?
Homeowners are welcome and receive wholesale pricing, the same as builders, architects, designers, developers and stonemasons. You don't need a trade account and you don't need to go through a fabricator to select your stone.
How long should I allow for a showroom visit?
Allow an hour for a first visit. That's enough to walk the racks, compare a shortlist side by side, look at finishes and talk through your layout. Many people come back a second time with photos and a shorter list.
Come and see the slabs
Choosing stone from a screen is guesswork. Choosing it from a full slab takes the guesswork out entirely.
